2013?! I can't even believe it.
While I am perpetually stunned at how fast time goes by, I have still managed to set up a few little goals and one big goal for the new year.
I don't know if I have touched on this much before but prior to moving in with Brady, I was hardly a cook. I have always loved to bake but cooking, not so much.
However, I immediately realized that we needed to be fed and I couldn't get away with making cakes or pies for dinner for very long. With that in mind, I embarked on a new adventure to teach myself how to cook.
With my new found love for cooking (and the most beautiful, freshly remodeled kitchen I could every dream of) I am anxious to stretch my legs a bit more.
My goal is to cook one new and adventurous recipe each week. In order to hold myself accountable, I will be documenting it in blog form.

To find new recipes I will be scouring my collection of cook books, looking to Pinterest and dipping into my massive collection of saved recipes on my email.
My first planned meal? This recipe for Blackened Chicken and Cilantro Lime Quinoa from Sarcastic Cooking (which looks like a fantastic and really funny cooking blog) that I found on Pinterest. I have been wanting to try Quinoa for ages but have never gotten around to it. Here goes nothing!
Stay tuned for cooking adventures! Have any recipes you love? Send them my way!

Copy Cat

Hey ladies!
Sorry about that impromptu (and very lengthy) blogging hiatus. I've missed my little blogging venture over the last month or so!
While the holiday madness has not quite settled down at home, I needed to pop in and show you my latest copy-cat discovery.
So you know that J. Crew pave link bracelet that EVERYONE (or at least is seems like everyone) has? I have been coveting it (aka stalking it on and talking myself out of buying it every time there is a sale) for months now and trying to find an adequate substitute.
While I have found a few dead ringers for the J. Crew bracelet, I had yet to find one with a price tag I was okay with.
And then I went Christmas shopping and a Christmas miracle happened; I found my dream bracelet at Coldwater Creek (of all places, I know)!
I went in to pick out a few Christmas gifts for my step mom and found this little gem.

It is $39.95 and currently 50% in store and online. If you have been eyeing the J. Crew bracelet, I can say this is an excellent substitute.
It even looks great on my wrist as I type this...
Go ahead and save $105. Pretty close to the original, huh?

I hope you all had a magnificent Christmas! Stay tuned, I hope to be back in my regular schedule soon!

No more ads!

Happy no-more-election-ads Day!
It is no secret that I am interested in politics, it is my career field. However, I will never understand why the candidates must run television ads (what feels like) every couple seconds, litter the streets with signs (who picks those up afterwards?) and stuff my mail box full of nonsense.
I will also never understand why some people chose to use Facebook as a little political soapbox. No one really cares what you think, nor are the scoping out their feed to read your rants, just knock it off.
In the spirit of confusion, here is a hilarious compilation called "15 Things I Will Never Really Understand" from the Thought Catalog.
Check it out, laugh.
#5, 6 and 8 really get me. I enjoy sports more than the average girl yet I will never understand Fantasy Football.
And bobby pins? All of mine have to be hanging out with my missing sock mates.
Now let's get back to regularly scheduled programming, I was so sad New Girl wasn't on last night.

Fleeting Fall

I always have lofty weekend goals of taking outfit photos and creating go-to blog posts for the next week. I swear, 9 out of 10 weekend I fail to accomplish any part of that goal.
However, as busy as last weekend was, I managed to get a few outfit shots in before it started to down pour.

Sweater: Target | Blouse: J. Crew
Jeans: H&M (the cheapest jeans I own and my favorite) | Boots: Steve Madden

A desperate in-car shot to get out of the rain!

I seriously can't believe how fast Fall is whizzing by! I went into Target today (you know, the day BEFORE Halloween) and all of the Halloween decorations were gone and a Christmas wonderland had taken their place. To top it off, Brady and I saw a bunch of men unloading Christmas trees at one of the grocery store lots in town over the weekend.
I hope you don't have your tree already, it will be long dead by Christmas.
I LOVE Christmas but please, it is too early for decorations and trees!
What do you think? Are you ready for Christmas?

Kate Love

I don't think I have mentioned my love for Kate Spade here on the blog, however, I know I am not alone!
Kate Spade has such a classic and feminine style, you just can't go wrong. From handbags to jewelry to shoes, everything is simple and perfect.
Keeping up with the track record of perfection, how fantastic and charming is her new line Idiom? I got the email announcing the new shop a few days back and have since scoured the pages trying to decide which piece and phrase is my favorite.
I love how each piece is timeless in style yet offers a bit of whimsy with the chosen phrase, such as "Paint the Town Red" or "Skirt the Rules".
After much deliberation, I have decided I absolutely need (okay...maybe not need) the "Get Carried Away Idiom Bangle".

This new line was just too cute not to share!
Do you have a favorite piece from the Idiom shop?

Woohoo! Halloweekend!

Seeing as Halloween is Wednesday, I am treating this weekend as my beloved Halloweekend. I truly think Halloween deserves much more than one night. This may stem from my days in college taking advantage of days of parties and multiple costumes. However, that is beside the point.

The real deal here is I love Halloween, hands down it is one of my favorite holidays. It is the costumes, candy and Hocus Pocus watching that does it for me. It also happens to coincide with my birthday.

Birthday + Halloween = Greatest celebration ever

This weekend (aside from the costuming and excessive celebrating), I will be getting the house all gussied up for Halloween and making a few scrumptious treats.

Better late than never, right?
As usual, I turned to Pinterest for a bit of inspiration!

You know, if I had a baby. Somehow I don't think this would translate as well to an adult costume.

By the way, I am going to be a kitty and Brady will be Dwight Schrute. I can't wait to see how our costumes turn out!
What are your Halloweekend plans?

Oh hi

My goodness, what a busy week. I had Monday and Tuesday off from work so my brain really thinks is is still the beginning of the week.
That is a terrible excuse for no blogging but it is all I've got!
Am I the only one that immediately turns to the Pinterest Humor section when they are having a bad day? I swear, cat memes do something great for a lousy day.
While I get my brain synced up with what day it actually is, here is a little bit of humor to get you through your Thursday.
This made me laugh probably more than it should have, Brady loved it too.
Have a great day!

High Five for Friday!

1. Beautiful sunrise on my way to work.
3. I definitely need this sweater.
4. I see this chromed out PT Cruiser around town all the time. Such an intense car, I can only imagine the driver.
5. Mornings are better with chocolate chip cookies.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Wherever you are

This is something I stumbled across recently that definitely spoke to me. With technology being as prevalent as it is and squeezing into every facet of our lives, it is easy to get wrapped up and not be present. Have you ever noticed how many people are glued to their phones while out at restaurants or bars? It is overwhelming! Instagram, Facebook, Blogger and everything else can wait. Be present.
Happy Wednesday!

Chocolate Krispie Treats

Rice krispie treats have always been a favorite of mine. Not only are the simple and delicious, they are universally loved by all (at least I hope so...) and sprinkles can be added to suit any holiday.
What else could one ask for?!

Chocolate, they could ask for chocolate.

While I am a big fan of the original rice krispie treat, I am also a fan of rice krispie hybrids like the peanut butter krispie (more on that later). So when I discovered the chocolate krispie I knew that this was going to me a match made in heaven.

So you know when you are just pinning away and find an idea and thing "WHY didn't I think of that?!" this is one of those ideas. I believe the original recipes comes from Jaima at Ring Around the Rosies.
Prepare yourself for greatness.

What you need:
1 package oreos (or any other chocolate wafer cookie)
1 bag of marshmallows
1/4 stick of butter
*I ended up having to use a bit more butter, things got wild.

What you do:

Crush the cookies.
Melt marshmallows and butter while mixing together.
Stir in cookie bits until evenly blended.
Pour into a pan* and let set in the fridge.

*Really any normal size will do, I used 9x9. To make cutting easier after the treats set, line the pan with parchment, saran wrap or wax paper. You will thank yourself for this later.

There you have it!

As always, happy baking and please let me know what you think!

My goodness, it has been two weeks since I put together a High Five for Friday post! This week definitely calls for a high five, it marks two weeks until my birthday! Woooo!

1. A darling (an apparently delicious) "pup cake" from a local dog bakery. Snickers consumed it in roughly 10 seconds.
2. And after work glass of wine. Who can pass up a cute label?
3. Is it too early for this?
4. A hot chocolate like this will turn any day around.
5. Displaying my Coug flag proudly at the game two weeks ago (despite our loss).
Have a fantastic weekend!

The Baseball Tee!

My crush this week is an article of clothing that I have always loved: the baseball tee! I have had numerous over the years, whether they were class tee shirts in high school or casual tees for running around campus when I was in college.
However, a year or two back something horrible happened: I FORGOT about the wonders of the baseball tee!
How could I?!
Thanks to the completely amazing Sydney, my love for the baseball tee has been rekindled.
Oh, baseball tee. You have been missed.

Grab a Good Book

I come from a family of readers. One of our big family jokes is that my dad ALWAYS has a book with him. Going to a movie? Dad has a book tucked in his jacket. Opening presents on Christmas? You bet his book was on the coffee table just in case there was a lull.

While I am not quite that extreme, I do carry my book with me most of the time (it fits perfect in my Coach tote!). I am also a huge advocate for reading and am constantly trying to coerce sweet Brady into reading. Everyone should read!

A few months back Brady and I went to Austin, Texas to visit his brother. While we were there we made a few stops for lunch at Chik-Fil-A (a favorite of mine and a favorite of his four year old niece) and I just couldn't get over how incredible it was that Chik-Fil-A gave books with their kids meals. What a neat idea (so much better than the obligatory plastic toy) and a great way to get kids excited about reading!

I just finished The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve (a great, super quick read!) and am starting to re-read The Great Gatsby in preparation for the movie.

I am absolutely obsessed with this graphic! Isn't it the best?
Also, ignore the summer part. Reading is a necessity 365 days of the year!

Currently Crushing!

Whoa, how is this my first post this week? It feels like it should still be Monday! I will be a better blogger next week, I promise!
While this week feels like it has flown by, I always have time to share my latest crush with Britt!
As I mentioned last week, October is my birthday month. Time to start dropping not-so-subtle hints to my family about gifts!
If you have looked at a single fashion blog in the last six months, you have seen what I am crushing on (maybe you are crushing on it too!), the most fantastic, perfect and beautiful bracelet ever. Yes, ever. I can just see it stacked on my arm next to a beautiful gold (or rose gold!) watch. The possibilities for these timeless pieces are endless.
With the season turning to fall, I have started lusting after several gold items. It is just such a warm tone, so perfect to go along with jewel tones for fall. I have not always been a fan of gold but with these bracelets and watches, I am definitely changing my mind!

What do you think about gold?

Currently Crushing: Fall!

Now that October is nearly here (which is my birthday month! Wooo!!!) I am ready for full on fall! I am talking cozy sweaters, football, soup and apple picking. However, in an unusual twist of fate, Washington has remained quite warm all throughout September.
I am ready for a chill in the air, bring it on Washington.
{I will be kicking myself for saying this come February when it is dark, dreary, very cold and WET.}
While it has gotten quite a bit colder over the last week or two, it isn't chilly enough for a typical fall ensemble for me. I tend to be a little warm most of the time and no one likes to be sweating in their sweater. For now, I will be mentally planning all the outfits I can wear when things cool down a bit more.
On a side note, I am majorly crushing this sweater and have been since I saw Jessica wear it. The only part I am not crushing? The price. Oh Madewell.

Don't forget your Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate (or other warm drink of choice)!

High Five for Friday

Today is the last official day of summer. We better live it up because come Saturday, Fall will finally be here. I must say, after weeks of complaining about the arrival of fall, I am super excited to bring out the sweaters, boots and comfort food!
Linking up with Lauren to celebrate Friday!

1. Finally having the time to make a delicious bath of cupcakes (chocolate with salted caramel butter cream)
2. New shoes (Target strikes again)
3. A spontaneous Blizzard treat
4. Wonderful time at the fair
5. Perfect ferris wheel ride

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Currently Crushing: Tweed!

Call me an old lady, I love tweed.
There is something about tweed that is so classic, so collegiate and so FALL. I looked and looked for the perfect tweed blazer last fall but never did find one. I will be on the hunt again this year. With all these adorable tweed items on my radar, something tells me I will be bringing home more than just a blazer.
Linking up with The Wright Stuff for Currently Crushing Thursday!

Fall Pin-spiration

I have finally come to terms with the fact that fall is imminent.
I think this may have to do with the reintroduction of the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate.
Never the less, after reorganizing my closet to include my fall/winter items that had been stored I come to the decision that I have a few fall wardrobe gaps to fill.
{Obviously I need to look lovely while waiting in line for yet another SCHC.}
Here are a few images I am using to channel my fall style.

I am focusing on items with interesting texture, such as tweed, while not forgetting about the bright colors of summer, such as the teal pants and red skirt.
As always, I have Pinterest to thank for the hours wasted inspiration.

There have been quite a few trends pop up in the last few months. Some were great, others I found quite baffling. First it was high low skirts, then came neon and flatforms, then there was floral print pants and the blogger bubble necklace. Now we have wedge sneakers...
While I have been on board with a few other trends, this one gets me. I just can't see the appeal!

What do you think about the wedge sneaker trend?

High Five for Friday!

1. An ice cream treat on one of the final weekends of summer.
2. Hilarious license plate.
3. Airheads! I hadn't had had one sine probably the 6th grade.
4. Poor Snickers in the cone of shame.
5. (Not pictured, shame on me) I gave in and bought THE polka dot sweater.
It isn't online anymore. Sad. Visit your local Old Navy!

I hope you have an excellent weekend! I will be spending Saturday stuffing my face with fair food and waving at Brady as he rides the carnival rides at the state fair. Be jealous, very jealous.

Currently Crushing: Red!

Alright everyone, it is finally happening. I think I am finally coming to terms with the fact that the arrival of fall is imminent. I might as well be well dressed when it shows up.
Lately, I have been on the look out for a small cross-body bag for fall. I think a little red quilted number would be just what the doctor ordered!
Let me preface this little collage of darling bags by saying this item is a MAJOR crush. I am in love with the classic Chanel style (lets get real, who isn't?) but have not been able to find one in a similar style that is affordable! Help!
Have any of you seen a red quilted bag with a price tag that doesn't exceed two digits?

High Five for Friday

Four o'clock this afternoon can't come fast enough! Brady and I are headed out on a little weekend getaway to soak up some of the last bits of summer. In the meantime, here are a few things that made my week wonderful.
As usual, linking up with Lauren!

1. Monday off meant a lunch date with my love.
2. A mid-afternoon treat. So delicious.
3. Darling wine cozies from a friend made my bottles the cutest around.
4. Sunny days means the fountain is on at work. Such a beautiful spot to lunch.
5. Blueberry picking in the evening. Stay tuned for a cobbler!
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I am just delighted to share my new award!!! A huge thank you to Dani from Dani-Thinks for seriously making my day!
The Liebster Blog Award is given to bloggers by bloggers. It is a way to acknowledge each other and say, "You’re doing a great job." It is for blogs with 200 or less followers, so it’s also a great way to spread the word about smaller blogs and get them more readers and followers! When you receive the award, you post 11 random facts about yourself and answer 11 questions from the person who nominated you.You pass the Award onto other blogs (make sure to let them know they were nominated) and ask them 11 questions. You’re not allowed to nominate the blog who nominated you! (To get the button, right click the picture above and save the picture to your computer. You can then upload to your blog.)

11 Facts
1. I collect Starbucks city mugs from all of the places I visit. My recent additions are Whistler and Austin.

2. I was a big journalism nerd in high school and won the second place award nationally for feature writing on the high school level.

3. I love to read and bring my book absolutely everywhere with me.

4. I am perpetually motivated to do something different with my hair but can never quite muster up the courage to do anything drastic.

5. I met Brady through his cousin, Danielle. Danielle and I were roommates in college, she introduced me to him and I never looked back!

6. My biggest pet peeve is people who do not put their carts away in grocery store parking lots! Just walk the extra 20 feet and put it in the cart corral, don't leave it to roll around the parking lot!

7. My very favorite cookies are molasses cookies baked by my mom.

8. My absolute favorite cocktail is a mojito. I could drink them all. day. long.

9. Surprises are the best.

10. My very favorite food is buffalo wings made with Frank's Red Hot Sauce. Don't even try to use another sauce, Frank's is the best!

11. I have a slight major obsession with Jay Leno.

11 Questions
1. If you could wear one outfit from your closet for the rest of your life, what would it be?
In reality, I could seriously live in my WSU running shorts and one of my 100 WSU t-shirts. However, that would not be very attractive/practical. In order to be presentable, I would pick my favorite black and white polka dot blouse and my favorite coral pencil skirt. Both items fit my personality and style perfectly! I always feel so pulled together in a pencil skirt, it is my work "uniform"!

2. What is something (item..I'm going to assume you need your family) that you cannot live without?
Aside from my family and my fur babe, Snickers, I can't live without some type of music. While silence has its time and place, I am constantly listening to music. It sets the mood and always puts me in a better place.

3. What is your favorite dish to cook?
Hands down, my favorite dish to cook is a gnocchi recipe from Eating Well. When Brady and I moved in together I realized I was going to have to learn how to cook (seeing as I have always loved to bake- we couldn't live off of cake and pies for dinner) this was one of the first "complicated" meals I attempted. It turned out AMAZING and I have tweaked the recipe to fit our tastes. It is now a go-to meal that I love to cook!

4. What do you think is the hardest part about becoming an adult?
Time. Every since graduating form college and beginning my career, I have had such great difficulty managing time. Days zip by too quickly and I always seem to run out of time. It is too hard to fit in everything that needs to be done and still be able to stop and enjoy the small things.

5. What is something you are terrified of?
I have a huge fear of the open ocean. Weird, I know. It is just so deep and there are scary creatures out there. The thought of being in this situation seriously terrifies me.

6. What do you hope to accomplish through blogging?
I started this lovely blog as something fun to do and I just hope to keep it at that. I want to have a good time and get to know all of the other amazing bloggers out there. It is just incredible being able to connect with people from across the country through blogging!

7. Tell me something embarrassing from your childhood (because I want to laugh at you).
As a youngster I slipped and fell while dancing to the Men in Black song. The movie came out in 1997 so this was probably in 1998. This fall led to about a dozen stitches on my knee and a huge scar that I still have today. Very embarrassing!

8. What is your guilty pleasure?
Keeping Up With the Kardashians. I know, I know. The worst part of this guilty pleasure is I can't even do it any more! In order to save a little extra money, Brady and I cut down on our cable package and E! was eliminated. I am still bitter that DirecTV would only offer E! with a higher package. Don't worry, I still obsessively follow along on the E! Online. Don't Judge!

9. First Kiss?
Nothing all that special or memorable!

10. If a movie could describe your life, what movie would it be?
I am stuck on this one!

11. What is one goal you want to set for yourself this week?
To start my running schedule again! Brady and I have been remodeling and it has caused our newly imposed work out schedule to go down the drain. We need to start it up again!

I chose to nominate the blogs that have seriously inspired me since starting my blog a few months ago. It is such a good feeling to see other ladies out there in the same shoes I am in (sometimes literally, you guys have great taste in shoes)!
Now it's your turn. Here are your 11 questions to answer. Remember to answer these questions, in addition to posting 11 facts about yourself, then post 11 new questions for your choice of others who have less than 200 followers to answer!
1. What is your favorite season and why?
2. If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
3. What is your favorite meal?
4. Are you a pants or skirt/dress kind of gal?
5. If you could live in any other time period, which would it be?
6. What is one trend you just can't get on board with?
7. What is your must have item for fall?
8. Dogs or cats?
9. Must have beauty item?
10. What is the #1 item on your bucket list?
11. Why did you start a blog?
I had a blast putting together this post! Thank you again to Dani for the sweet nomination! I hope the ladies I nominated have a great time as well!
Thank you so much for reading, it means the world to me!

1. A desperately needed car wash on a sunny day
